Robes is a Bermondsey-based winter night shelter charity for homeless people in Southwark and Lambeth.
Local churches of many denominations come together in turn to welcome 35 Robes' guests every night for the five coldest months of the year, providing them with a safe refuge, hot dinner and breakfast, a dry night and the warmth of companionship.
St. Matthew's has been a Robes venue every year since the charity was founded in 2007, the guests dining in the church hall and sleeping in the church itself, this season on Thursday nights between early November and mid-January. The venue is staffed entirely by volunteers, some of them from the St. Matthew's congregation and more are welcome.
St. Matthew's has always been a favourite venue for the guests where they feel at ease, at home and amongst people who value them as the individuals they are.
